Diving in Tioman

Tioman is a great place to scuba dive or even to become a fully qualified diver. Sealantis' training ensures that new divers possess the required knowledge, skills and proficiency to embark with full confidence into the wonderful world of diving with a lifetime of enjoyment. If you are already a certified diver, you can join Sealantis' daily boat trips to the different dive sites in the company of experienced dive guides or continue your diving education with the Advanced or Specialty programs.

The following dive sites are part of our daily outing range: Magicienne Rock, Fan Canyon, Kador Bay, One Tree Bay, Batu Malang, Chebeh Island, Labas Island, Tiger Reef, Golden Reef, Soyah Island, Renggis Island, the Marine Park, Tokong Bahara and Tokong Burong. Canyons, 'swim-throughs' and impressive rock formations make each of these dive sites an experience in itself.

An abundance growth of hard and soft corals can be found everywhere. Turtles, reef sharks, large moray eels, shoals of jacks and barracudas, angelfishes and much more are at home here. The Marine Park and Soyah Island have smaller wrecks (wooden fishing boats), which attract an abundance of fishes. At the beginning and at the end of the dive season, Manta Rays and Whale Sharks regularly visit Tioman's reefs. Most dive sites are good for both novice and experienced divers alike, with the dive depth range between 6m to 27m. The best time for diving is between March and November, where the weather is generally nice and the sea is calm. From March to May and from September to November, visibility is at its best and is on an average between 15m to 30m. From June to August visibility is at an average of between 8m to 15m.

Sealantis offers on its daily outings two dives at different dive sites and the lunch break is in a lagoon at Coral Island. For your convenience, all dives are guided by our experienced PADI Dive Masters who are trained oxygen providers. The choice of dive sites change daily, and for those who would like to do more than the two dives at Coral Island, a third dive can be arranged at Soyah Island.

Travelling to Tioman

Tioman Island is a beautiful haven located just off the east coast of West Malaysia and within easy reach from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. There are several choices of transportation to the island.

From Singapore:

It takes approximately 3-4 hours by a catamaran ferry from the Tanah Merah ferry terminal or 40 minutes by direct flight on Berjaya Air to Tekek three times a week. Another option is to take a bus or taxi to Mersing, which approximately a 3-hour drive.

From Kuala Lumpur:

The fastest way is to take a flight, which takes about 55 minutes. There are 2-3 flights operating daily on Berjaya Air from Subang Airport.

From Mersing:

Take one of the many ferries to Tioman. Depending on the type of ferry, the journey could take from between 1½ hours (by speedboat, RM35) to 3½ hours (moderate or sea gull ferry, RM30). All ferries from Mersing stop at Paya Beach where our dive centre is located. The airport is in Tekek and the ferry from Singapore arrives at the Berjaya Resort jetty. From there you can charter a sea taxi which will bring you to Paya beach or a pick up can be arranged on request for an additional cost of RM30.

Paya Village

Paya Village is located 10 minutes by boat from the airport towards the north of the island and is the most popular place among visitors. The beach is sandy and there are a variety of restaurants to choose from (Chinese, Thai, local, Western and BBQ) and accommodation of different categories. After a good day of diving, most people tend meet up in the café, located right next to our dive centre for cold drinks or just to listen to some music and unwind.

Accommodation

We recommend the Tioman Paya Resort on Paya Village. They have a variety of accommodation available, however it is basic. The prices vary from RM30 for a dormitory (double-decker with air-cond) to 120RM for a chalet for four persons (air-cond, hot water and seafront location). You can make a reservation by calling +60 9 419 7045 or if you prefer, we can assist with the bookings for you.
